Ash Wood Is a Common American Wood for Flooring & Furniture

Ash wood has a solid history in America. Its botanical name is fraxinus americana and is also known as White Ash, Green Ash, Red Ash, Black Ash & Brown Ash. Ash is one of the most well-known trees and is grown throughout North America. We have ash lumber to thank for the crack of baseball bats throughout sandlots and baseball fields across the United States. Ash is also a great choice to for flooring and furniture because due to the straight-grained, clean color that it offers.

Ash lumber has many features that include:
  • Very good bending properties
  • Generally good strength and hardness
  • Janka hardness: 1320
  • Lightweight
  • Easy to cut with by hand or with power tools
  • Dries rapidly with little degradation

One drawback to using as is that it is non-durable and perishable. The sapwood is also vulnerable to attack from common furniture beetles and powder post. Ash heartwood is moderately resistant to treatments with preservatives and the sapwood is rather porous.

Please contact Advantage Trim & Lumber Company to learn more about ash. We have a complete inventory of both ash flooring and ash lumber to choose from.
