Beech Wood Flooring and Furniture is a Classic Choice

Beech wood is grown primarily throughout North America and Europe. Beech wood comes from the fagus grandifolia tree and the wood is slightly coarse and both rays and tiny pores are clearly visible. The grain itself is straight with a fine and even texture.

Many people use this reddish-brown wood for cabinets, furniture, wood flooring, laminate flooring, veneers, handrail parts, and brush backs. It’s also not uncommon to hear the term “beech wood aged” in many beer commercials.

Beech Wood lumber has many good qualities that include:

• Excellent bending properties
• High crush strength with medium stiffness
• Janka hardness: 1260
• Moderate shock resistance
• Works great with both hand and power tools
• Has a good finish when stained and polished
• Dries rapidly

There are some beech wood problems which can be linked to its strong tendency to warp, split and crack while drying. While it is seasoning Beech wood can also significantly shrink and checking and discoloration can also happen during the drying process. The longhorn beetle also loves to feast of beech wood as well as the common furniture beetle.
