Janesville, WI - Last Christmas I made my beautiful niece a xylophone for her present. She is still young enough to enjoy handmade presents although I know a time will come when they will not be as "exciting" as the cheap plastic junk. The xylophone is made for oak, cherry , and walnut scraps that I had laying around. Each block was planed down to about 3/4" and then tuned by sanding out the middle. The blocks where suspended on felt so they would not come into contact with the base and affect the sound. The mallet was a small block of cherry sanded to have random angles. It was a fun project that was well received by my niece. If you would like a full tutorial, I post a few of my projects on instructables. https://www.instructables.com/id/Wood-Xylophone/ Hope you enjoy
Cape Coral, FL - Using Cumaru, made this swim platform.
Port Jefferson, NY - It is not uncommon for wood turners to receive a request to create an art-form from the wood of a downed tree, usually it is a tree that held a special meaning for its owner---and now it was gone. Such was the background of this sculptured turning. It was turned from a burl cut from the downed tree.
San Fernando, CA - This is a child size garden bench that I made for my daughter's first grade reading area. It is made mainly with Ipe sticker wood that I milled and cleaned up. There are also cherry, walnut, and mahogany pieces. I like to use contrasting woods which I think help each different wood stand out. The bench has a subtle yet comfortable curve to the seat. What I really like about this little bench is how sturdy and heavy it is.

Mattawan, MI - It's not just for decks! Advantage Lumber has some amazing dimensional lumber. This small dining table is all made from Cumaru. I wanted something that would last a long time on our screened porch. They say Cumaru will last 50 years. I'm hoping my great grandchildren (once I have them) will be fighting over who gets Poppa's table. I was able to basically use the wood "as-is." Didn't need to run it through my planer, which would have been tough on the blades. Cumaru is amazingly dense. Most importantly, my wife loves it!
Sarasota, FL - With the addition of a piano to my living room, I lost a big shelf unit that we used to keep books a decoration on. I still needed a place to store these items, so my only option was to go upwards. I designed this tree shaped book case and shelves to give the storage that I needed without having something that looked like a giant block of stuff on the wall. All of the material gets thinner and loses depth as the height increases, and the trunk loses width as well, to give a more organic feel and simulate how a real tree grows. I also installed on LED back lighting on each of the branches, and some pendant lights to hang over my wife's desk. The book case is built from Pecky Bolivian Walnut.
Manila, UT - We bought the redwood burl at a shop in Garibaldi, Oregon while on vacation in 2008. Moved to Florida, then to Washington hauling the burl with us. Finally in 2013, I decided to sand it down and make a bar height table out of it. Got the sanding done and finished it with a urethane. While traveling to our son's home, there is a live edge place, where they happened to have this old whiskey barrel. We finished it with a stain, added some wine corks to the bottom of the barrel and used some brackets to secure the burl to the barrel. We moved to Utah in 2016, and use the table in our new pool room.

All tops were glued with biscuits and all screws are hidden with Tigerwood plugs provided by Advantage. The benches fit completely under the table so it can be covered, as it will be outside year round. It is finished in Penofin oil.
Polson, MT - This is a memorial bench for a friend of mine that passed a while back. We had worked together for several years and I was honored that the PD let me take on the project. I used ipe for the construction in 4/4 and 8/4. Due to the oily nature of the wood, everything was cleaned with acetone before gluing, then each section was screwed together and finally all-thread was run through in 7 places to add additional mechanical joining. The all-thread also secured the 1/4" steel feet that are bolted to the concrete. The project was finished with ipe oil. The top was inlaid with a granite plaque and two 2' strips of aluminum u-channel that I filled with blue resin.
Clarksville, GA - This is my first project. The wood was bought from a booth out of a local antique store so I’m not sure what it is. The wood was cracked naturally so I burned the inside edge and inlayed crushed amazonite. Then resin was poured in layers until even coated and legs attached.
