Wood of the Month - Poplar
It's Easy to See Why Poplar Has a 5,000 History of Being Turned into Household Items
According to Tom Elberson, wood-working expert at Advantage Trim & Lumber Co., Inc., "Poplar is often used for projects that require being painted. Different grades provide varying color patterns which is why poplar is used for furniture projects, such as paint grade cabinets and cabinet framing. Although poplar is usually painted, many woodworkers feature it in mid-grade projects as a stainable material. It's also great for molding and trim work, edge-glued panels, and plywood."
Recently, archeologists in Switzerland unearthed a 5,000 year old Poplar door! That's the stone age, people! If Poplar was good enough for the very first craftsmen, it can clearly work wonders for your special furniture projects.

How to Winterize Your Wood Deck
Before the holidays arrive, now is the time to spend a couple of hours making sure your deck is ready for the winter.
One quick and easy thing you can do right now is sweep away and remove any debris between your deck boards. Leaves, dirt, and branches should all be removed. Doing this will ensure proper ventilation both under and above the deck.
